Our Experience:

There was no greater gift that anybody could have given us... indelible African moments

It was Jack's 60th birthday, and everybody's question was "What do you give a man who has everything he needs?"
It was a special time for him, and we had no answer until Sam, our dearest friend (who happened to be a travel agent), suggested a gift travel e-wallet where people could deposit money into a travel account towards a really special trip of Jack's choice. That was brilliant!!! Everybody really appreciated that they were contributing to something that would bring him joy and create lasting memories in his life... win-win!
The day after his birthday bash, Sam tallied up the e-wallet, and WOW, we were blown away at the generosity of our family and friends. There was enough to cover our flights and accommodation for a bucket list trip to Africa!

We arrived in Cape Town and were greeted by a young gentleman who transported us to our hotel, located just outside the city centre, with THE most amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean. We stayed there for the next 4 nights, playing some golf and exploring the best of the Cape. Our dedicated guide enthralled us with his knowledge of Cape Town. We sipped on THE best Cape wines, ate THE best food, and played golf on some really famous greens. We had the best time and met the most wonderful people!

With time flying by, soon it was time to depart (reluctantly). We packed away our "city clothes" and shopping purchases (mostly wine) and had these wrapped and stored.  Our safari trip required 2x 20kg soft bags for our flight from Cape Town to Maun. We had swapped our clothes into smaller bags under the guidance of Sam's "safari check-list"!

We chose to explore two camps in the Okavango Delta for completely different experiences. One was a water and camp, and the other was a mostly dry camp in the Linyanti area. This way, we could have a well-rounded safari experience. We were wowed by nature and wooed by the staff, leaving us feeling like royalty. The remoteness of the camps truly connected us to nature once again. We felt humbled in the presence of majestic elephants in the riverbeds as we glided through the shallow waterway in a mokoro.  A reality check about just how fragile humans are when you hear the piercing roars of lions who rule their territories with strong might... a sound that will stay with us forever.

Africa is definitely a place that has embedded itself in our souls.
On the flight back to Cape Town, we made a promise to return. Our guide was waiting at the airport to transport us to our hotel where we spent the last night packing for our return flight home.
